If you are not buddy-buddy with SEO, the world of SEO can be intimidating and scary (Blackhat Peeps). When you think you are done optimizing the tags, speed and other blah, the dark side falls upon you and they change the rules again.

The world of SEO keeps changing everyday, you cannot rely on the methods that worked in 2000’s and basic website optimisations to rank at the top of search engines. It’s 2018, to rank on top of search engines, you need to step up your SEO game and approach a long term SEO strategy than having short term gains.

Center of every Online marketing strategy is Content. Write detailed product descriptions, add more relevant images or make awesome product videos. Choose relevant keywords your customers are searching online, write a blog post about it or make a ‘How To’ video. Your customers and Google will go crazy about it.

Generating content for your eCommerce store seems very simple on surface. Practically, content marketing is a lot of work and it often does not happen. Sigh. A well-written content can bring in visitors for years and help to strengthen your domain.

Most eCommerce businesses owners use a CMS platform to start their online store. Magento 2 is the best eCommerce platform out there in the market and is technically optimised for search engines. In fact, most CMS platforms out there do well in SEO terms and can take care of On-Page SEO things so that you can pay attention to the content.

Wondering how can one create as much impact as possible on the content area in a different way than writing a blog post? Here are a few ideas which you can adopt:

Create Specific landing pages based on product attributes in addition to layered Navigation.

Design category pages with specific selection of products and write a properly SEO optimized text for this page. A properly optimized category page with keyword targeted content goes a long way. Creating narrow categories is a tough task and impossible to do manually, if you are using Magento as your eCommerce platform, you can do it automatically based on category rules. Properly define your conditions and select proper attributes to get the job done.

Writing a long content for each and every product you sell is difficult and impossible if you have 1000’s of products. There are some products which are such that they need no description. So, how do you rank those products with a short content?

You cannot keep writing stupid things just for SEO. If it looks good to Google, people will find it stupid.

So how do you increase content on a product page?

There are 2 ways.

  • Write Self (Expert) Reviews.

You can share your valuable experience while using that product or what you feel about that product and how it will be helpful for the users. You can even source reviews from any third party. If you are writing reviews make sure it is detailed and keyword optmised.

  • Motivate users to write reviews.

For a big eCommerce store it is not possible to write reviews for each and every product. In this case, you can motivate the people who purchased the product to write reviews for the products. User generated  content is the most valuable content for SEO.

You can gamify reviews like Amazon is doing. Give your reviewers a rank so that they will be prompted to write more reviews and share their experience with others. If not gamification, you can use any means which can motivate a person to write reviews be it offers, gifts or coupons.

Generate Dynamic Descriptions for your Product Page.

The thumb rule of eCommerce SEO is that you should have unique content for each and every product you have on your store. While this is practically an impossible task if you have a large store and if you are selling FMCG products.

You need good product descriptions for the products which are unique and if their sales are dependent on those products. This is not the case with FMCG products. It’s difficult to write unique descriptions for them and takes long time, this is the reason most people resort to descriptions supplied by manufacturer and hence making the content duplicate.

In scenarios like this, it will be a whole wave of duplicate content on your store and of course on each and every competitor. It’s hard to rank on these products if you are just starting out. This situation is not really good for SEO of your store.

So, how to stand out from the market?

Generate dynamic descriptions for each and every product based on categories.

If you are using an advanced eCommerce platform like Magento, you can use apps which can help you generate a unique product description based on attributes and other product information. You can segment these descriptions based on categories to make it more personalized.

An example of such description would be,

This product – {product_name} is creatively crafted by {brand} with utmost precision to make your daily life easy. {Product_Tagline}. The model name is {model_name} and comes in {product_main_color} Color. It weighs {product_weight} kg and has a height of {product_height} cms and a width of {product_width} cms. It is suitable for {product_audience} and was manufactured in the year {product_manufacture_year}.

The more time you give to this description, the more unique it can be. Make sure that make this description based on the product category and not go for the ‘one description fits all’ approach. The more you segment, the more you will benefit.
